Yukata made easy for Ken

Updated: Jan 6, 2019

A yukata is casual Japanese clothing which they wear during the summer time... And I think it will look prefect for Ken, so I made them...

Little fact about yukata

There is something you might wanna know about yukata...

Yukata were mostly made of indigo dyed cotton traditionally, but nowadays a wide variety of colors and designs are available.

Yukata are worn at outdoor summer events such as Hanabi (fireworks) displays and Bon-odori festivals. Yukata are also worn at traditional Japanese inns, especially after bathing in hot springs.

This is how I made Yukata for my Ken...

You are gonna need fabric for this craftwork... Also you will need

- needle & thread

- scissors

- water soluble pen

- sewing pins

- sewing machine (highly recommended)

Before I start, I want you to know that I use plain dark colored fabric for this project cause I personally don't like something to bright or fancy for Ken's yukata. But it totally up to you...

1. First, I take down the measurement for the body part that I'm gonna need for yukata.

- shoulder, arms, waist, the length that I want my yukata be...

2. Then, I draw out a pattern according to the measurement I took back then.

3. Trace on the fabric you've chosen with a water soluble pen.

*Don forget to leave some space between the pieces*

4. Cut the pieces with allowances around the pieces... I think 5mm~8mm will do, but it's up to you.

5. Sew the sleeves to the body pieces and also sew the front pieces and body pieces together.

*sew where the red line indicated*

6. Sew the body piece for the back together.

7. Fold the yukata right side to right side, secure with sewing pins and sew together.

*sew only where the red line indicate*

8. Time to attach the collar to the yukata. First, Fold the collar in half and also fold in the allowances.

9. Attach the collar to the yukata & secure with sewing pins. Sew it.

10. Hem the edges of the side and bottom of the yukata.

~ Time for Obi ~

11. With another fabric, cut out a rectangle shaped piece which the length should be longer than the waist of Ken. The width now should be twice as thick as you wish the obi will be.

12. Then, fold it in half and hem the edge of the longer side.

13. Turn the right side out, hem both end of the obi.

And you're DONE~
