Reformation Dolci Dress Inspired

When I first saw this dress on the Internet, I immediately felt that I had to make one for my Barbie because I always think that the Reformation dresses suits them very well... Even though the design of the dress look pretty simple, however, when you look closer you'll notice that it's not as simple as it look like...

Somehow I managed to DIY the Dolci Dress for my Barbie and I also made a video of how I drew the pattern and how I sewed the dress...

So this is how and what I use to make it...

- Fabric

- Needle & thread

- Scissors

- Water soluble pen

- Sewing pin

- Sewing machine (highly recommended)

- Zip

- Paper & pen (for dress pattern)

1. First of all, choose your model and start measuring and drawing the pattern for the dress...

I included how I measure and draw my pattern in video on our YouTube channel, so be sure to check it out...

2. Start by sewing the separated pieces of the top together...

*Save the bottom part for later use and do it one side at a time*

So I start by attach number 2 & 3, number 4 & 5 together.

Then number 1 to 2/3, number 6 to 4/5

Finish by sewing the 2 pieces together...

3. By now, one side of the top is done... Repeat the whole process with opposite direction for the other side...

*Make sure to try on your model to make sure it fits*

4. Sew the two top pieces together by the center line of the front... ^.<

5. Now, it's time to take out the bottom part... and divided it into 3 pieces...

* a whole for front, and 2 half for back*

6. Sew the three pieces together...

~Optional choice for pocket~

If you'd like to include a pocket, sew only half way to one side of the bottom part...

- Attach a small piece of fabric to the edge (right side to right side)

- Sew along the edge of the dress leaving some allowances on every side of the pocket

- Repeat the progress on the other side opposite way~

- Place the pocket right side to right side and hem along the edges...

- Hem the remaining edge of the dress...

- And the pocket is done~

7. Cut out a strip of fabric about 1cm x 40cm for the riffle...

*Leaving some allowances on each edges*

8. Hem on one side, and use the gathering function for the other side on sewing machine to make the riffle...

9. Attach the riffle to the bottom part, and the top to the bottom...

10. And it's time for the zip~

So this is the zip I'm using...

If you can't find zip this short, just buy one and cut to the length you desired...

Sew on the zip on the back...

11. Hem all the edges for the rest of the dress...

I added some ribbon for extra details but it's totally up to you... ^.^

And you're DONE~

So this is the pattern that I draw... hope that it's useful for ya~

*Pls take note that this is for Mattel Barbie (original)*
