LOL Surprise Doll Fashion new in town!!!

Updated: Nov 8, 2020

Hello there!!! We are glad to welcome our new member, L.O.L. Surprise Doll into our blog!!!

We'd like to introduce to you, Candy (left) and Heidi (right)...

Ever since L.O.L. introduced L.O.L. Surprise doll to the world, our friend was so urge to own one... And when he did, we were surprised at how adorable they are in real life~ So not in a surprise... we decided to bring them home with us... >.<

That's how they became one of our family...

So back to the topic... Today we are gonna show y'all how we made this modern Japanese styled kimono for our lovely L.O.L. Surprise Doll~

Things you'll need for this project:

- Fabric of your choice (3 of them)

- Needle & thread

- Sewing pin

- Sewing machine (highly recomended)

- Measuring tape

- Ruler

- Water erasable pen/chalk pencil

Step by step instructions:

1. First of all, use a measuring tape to measure measurements needed for the garment...

We gonna need measurement of burst, shoulder, arm, length of hakama (skirt), length of top...

~Undergarment~

1. Draw out the pattern with the measurement we got back then...

For this, I took 4cm x 4cm for the back, 4cm x 3cm for the front and we gonna 2 of those...

Make a mark at 1.5cm point for the sleeves and 0.8cm for the shoulder...

Make a mark at 2.5cm point and draw a line as a guide for the collar...

Also 3cm x 1.5cm for the sleeves~

*This measurements are only for reference, you can changes as your preferences*

2. Cut them out...

*Don't forget to leave some allowances around the edges*

3. Attach the 3 pieces of the body part together...

Pin the back and front pieces together right side to right side, sew only the shoulder part...

4. Attach the sleeves...

Hem the edge of both sleeves and attach onto the body piece...

5. Make a nodge on the collar and trim off the unwanted part...

This is to make it easier when we sew on the collar later...

6. Sew the body part and sleeves together...

Pin them together right side to right side, and sew them together...

trim off the excess and then turn the right side out~ ^.<

7. Use a strip of fabric to wrap around the collar~

With a strip of the same fabric, pin onto the collar right side to right side, sew them together...

Then, fold in, pin and sew again~

8. Hem all edges...

At last, hem all the edges of the rest, trim off the excess...

And the undergarment is done!!!

~ Kimono Top ~

The progress is basically same as the undergarment, only the measurements are different~

For the kimono top, I took 4cm x 4cm x 3pcs for the back & front for the body part...

Make a mark at 2cm point for sleeves and 0.5 for shoulder...

Make a mark at 3cm point and draw a line a guide for collar...

20cm x 10cm for the sleeves... make a mark at 10cm point as center point...

Also 2cm apart from the center point for the sleeves cuff...

*This measurement is only for reference, you can change according to your preference*

Sew according to the progress as the undergarment...

~ Hakama ~

For this, I measure 10cm for the length of the hakama, but of course you can always change that according to your preference...

20cm x 10cm for the hakama, make a mark at center point (10cm) so that we know where to start with while pleating...

1. Hem the bottom and side edges to start with...

2. Make pleats...

I make 5 pleats for this, but you can make as many as you wish, don't forget to add up some extra length for that... ^.<

Don't forget to pin the pleats to hold them in place...

*Iron or press them a bit to make the pleats visible...*

3. Secure pleats with strip of fabric~

With a strip of the same fabric, secure the pleats by sewing them together right side to right side... This strip will later act as belt for the hakama...

4. Fold in, pin and sew again...

And the hakama is DONE~
